PERSIAN

The perfect cat should be medium to large, but there shall be no sacrifice of quality for the sake of mere size.

HEAD: Round and massive with great breadth between the ears. Face and underlying bone structure round, well set on a short thick neck. The profile as straight a line as possible from the chin, through both jaws and the tip of the nose to the eyebrows, with an indentation marking the nose stop. Forehead rounded. Depth of skull to be as great as possible, with the back of the head well rounded.

EARS: Small and neat with rounded tips, not unduly open at the base, set well apart and low on the the head, fitting into the rounded contour of the head.
EYES: Large, round and bold, set well apart and brilliant, giving a sweet or pleasing expression to the face.
NOSE: Short and broad to the tip with a distinct stop or break. The nose should not taper and should end with a nose leather of equal width having large open nostrils to allow for ease of breathing. Ideally the centre of the nostrils should not exceed the height of the lower lid.
CHEEKS:Full.
JAWS:Broad and powerful.
CHIN: Firm, full and well developed.
BODY: Cobby, thick set and low on the legs, deep in chest, equally massive across the shoulders and rump, with a well rounded rib cage. Medium to large in size. Back to be level without dip or hump. Body condition solid to firm.
LEGS:Short, thick and strong, forelegs straight.
PAWS: Large, round and firm, with toes carried close. Five in front, four behind
TAIL: Short, full, and in proportion to the body, not tapering and carried without a curve set at an angle lower than the body.
COAT: The coat should show primarily perfect physical condition. It should show no evidence of parasites, and should be of fine texture, soft, glossy, full of life and standing off from the body. It should be long all over the body, including the shoulders. The ruff should be immense and should continue in a deep frill between the front legs.
TUFTS:Ear and toe tufts, long and curved.
TAIL:Tail very full.
BALANCE:The overall requirement is that all parts of the cat are in proportion.
TEMPERAMENT:Should be placid, allowing easy handling at all times.

Head (Including size and shape of eyes) 25
Body (Including shape, size, bone & length of tail) 25
Coat, length, texture and overall condition 20
Colour 20
Eye Colour 10
TOTAL 100

Note: It is particularly desirable to eliminate rangy, flat-sided, narrow-chested, spindle-legged, long-tailed cats, with long noses, large ears pointed and upright; eyes set on the bias or close together, receding chins, light bones and a general foxy face. A slight shortening of coat across the shoulder arc is not uncommon in older kittens when the coat is changing. Coat length and colour, change enormously between summer and winter due to moulting.

The type standard is the same for all Persians and Exotics.

EXOTIC

The edges of the ears to be the same colour as the markings with a central patch of ground colour resembling a thumb print. A series of lines run from above the "M" marking, over the top of the head and extend to the shoulder markings. The shoulder markings form the outline of a butterfly when viewed from above. Both upper and lower "wings" should be clearly defined in outline with the central areas broken by small areas of ground colour. On the back there should be an unbroken line running down the spine from the butterfly to the tail with a stripe on either side of this running parallel to it. These stripes should be separated from each other by stripes of ground colour. On each flank there should be a large oyster shaped patch which should be surrounded by one or more unbroken rings. The tail should have complete rings, as numerous as possible, with the tip of the tail being the same colour as the markings. The legs should be barred evenly with bracelets from the body markings to the toes, which should be spotted. The abdominal region should also be spotted. Ground colours and markings should be evenly balanced and both sides of the cat should have identical markings.

MACKEREL TABBY

SMOKE POINT
This group has a combination of the point colour of the pointed Persian with smoke characteristics underlying the points, making the cat one of contrast in both ways. By definition, the Smoke point looks like an ordinary pointed Persian in repose. Ear tufts should be silver to white and the general area may be slightly shaded with a silver or white undercoat.

Special care should be taken to identify Smoke points correctly, particularly in kittens whose coats undergo many changes. In the transition from kittenhood to adulthood and to a lesser extent in each summer moult in adulthood, pigmentation is often lost. Darkening may appear at the roots, making it difficult to be certain if the cat is a Smoke Point.

At times, the development of the undercoat may combine with the darkening at the roots to give the points an "inside-out" appearance.

In all other respects, Smoke points resemble ordinary pointed Persians. They should have the same point colour, body colour, nose leather, paw pads and eye colour. They may occur in all pointed colours.

Therefore, the ordinary pointed Persian details of Standards should be referred to for individual colour details.

FAULTS: 1. White toe(s).
2. Hooding.
3. White or other incorrect hair colour in points.
4. Incomplete mask.
5. Any resemblance to Siamese type.
6. Oriental eye shape.
